How the 20's Roared

HOW THE 20's ROARED

The decade of the 1920s in the US is known as a "roaring" time of flaming youth, flappers, and flivvers whose back seats accommodated sexual experimentation. But the excesses of this period had a darker side: the Red Scare, unprecedented restriction of immigration, eugenics, resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan, the lawlessness inspired by Prohibition, and the financial excesses leading to the crash of 1929. Throughout the decade, movies, radio, and advertising created the impression of a contented country.  Literature, however, offered alternative perspectives.
