This overnight trip to Dearborn, Michigan offers an opportunity to learn about how Arab-Americans have enriched the economic, political and cultural landscape of the United States and will shed light on the experiences of immigrants and ethnic groups coming to our nation. The itinerary, arranged by Janice Terry, retired Professor of Modern Middle East History at Eastern Michigan University, will include a private tour of the Arab American National Museum, a mosque tour, films, and ethnic foods. The trip will occur during the Muslim month of Ramadan providing an opportunity to participate in an iftar dinner (which breaks the fast at sundown) and a Film Festival at the Museum.

Paula Lewis Honored at Annual Meeting
Thursday, 25 May 2017 10:00

ILR presented its Service Award to Paula Lewis for exceptional service to the Learning in Retirement program at its annual meeting on May 24, 2017.  The award was presented by Ed Osborne, ILR Treasurer and long-time co-worker and friend of Paula.  Paula's name will be added to the ILR service award plaque displayed prominently in the Marietta College Administration Building.

Paula served many years as office manager of the Business & Economics department at Marietta College. She was also building manager for Thomas Hall. Although it was not in Paula’s job description, she went far above the call of duty to help ILR officers and instructors. She was especially helpful when something went wrong with the computer, sound or lighting systems in the classroom, which happened frequently. Paula was also the primary person who ordered and supervised the installation of classroom equipment that ILR requested. The renovation of Thomas 124 (Cooper Auditorium) was supervised by Paula making ILR’s primary classroom far more safe, comfortable and attractive for our Learning in Retirement participants.

Paula was recently elevated to a higher position at as the Marietta College President’s Executive Coordinator.
